Why are scooters such great choices for getting around town? First, scooters are quite inexpensive compared to other major forms of transportation including: cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, and even motorcycles. Average 50cc scooters or 49cc scooters will cost you anywhere from $500 to $2000. That is a huge difference from the $3000 to $6000 you would spend on the average motorcycle. Obviously, scooters are far less expensive than cars at about one tenth the cost of an entry-level sedan. Another benefit of the scooter is that it is much safer than a motorcycle.

For one, scooters are generally much slower than motorcycles. The limited speed makes them safer to drive since it is harder to lose control. Scooters also have a lower center of gravity so they are more stable than motorcycles. Finally, scooters are a very convenient vehicle to transport and store. They do not require parking spots but rather have their own designated parking. Since many people drive cars, scooter spots are commonly vacant and easily accessible. Scooters also do not require a motorcycle license to drive so all individuals with valid driver's licenses may legally operate one.

The most common scooters come in two variants: 50cc scooters and 49cc scooters. The "cc" is an abbreviation that means "cubic centimeter," and it is the unit of measurement for displacement. What that means in layman's terms is that it designates how powerful the engine of the scooter is. 50cc scooters and 49cc scooters are probably the most common and most practical types, but they are also on the lower end of the power spectrum. These scooters are designed for city use only and commonly have a maximum speed of 35-40mph. They are fuel-efficient, small, lightweight, and easy to maneuver. However, they are not highway-legal because they are too slow and would cause traffic problems. Regardless of their lack of power, 50cc scooters and 49cc scooters are the best class of scooter for everyday needs.
